We are testing out a new type of blog that brings you all the latest news in tech. Anything from IPOs to new tools being used - it will serve as a weekend newsletter to help you stay up to date on what's happening in the tech industry.
- 1. Uber - one of the most disappointing IPOs EVER
Some had high hopes for the Uber stock despite the marginal success of Lyft's stock. When Uber went public on Thursday, it didn't even have the temporary uptick that Lyft got. Were people hesitant after seeing Lyft rise and fall?
"In terms of the share price drop, Uber’s IPO ranks as the ninth worst first day performer of all time, according to DealLogic."
Many tech companies have succeeded after an underwhelming IPO, so don't count them out yet. Even if they may never make a profit.
2. Tesla enters the auto insurance game
What doesn't Elon Musk want to have his hands on? The famous entrepreneur is already involved with Energy, Automotives, AI, Aerospace, and more. Now he wants to get into the insurance game for electric vehicles. One famous investor has talked about the difficulties any auto company has when they are trying to enter insurance.
3. Is Slack making us less productive?
Designed to increase productivity relative to other forms of messaging, a report came out that analyzed the effectiveness of software tools like Slack. It found that an average employee at a large company sends over 200 Slack messages per week. Does tech always help with our productivity?!
4. Twitter makes retweeting more fun
In the past, you could only use text when retweeting/quoting someone else's tweet. Now you can use an image, video, or GIF. This exemplifies a departure from Twitter's original strategy, since there will now be more images, videos, and GIFs on your newsfeed. Are they trying to become more like Facebook/Instagram?
